Docking Ring Segment
Our applications engineers machined a docking ring segment to test Mastercam’s Accelerated FinishingTM technology. This is a component from the International Docking Adapter, used to connect manned spaceflight vehicles to the International Space Station. Once connected, astronauts, cargo, and oxygen will freely pass between the two linked systems. Producing such a complex part would normally take multiple days. But by combining Dynamic Roughing, Accelerated Finishing, and Mastercam’s advanced Multiaxis toolpaths, our applications engineers were machining one part – from raw material to finished product – within a single day.
