New Options for Machining Directions

New Options for Machining Directions Mastercam 2027 now offers new Automatic and Follow curve chaining options on the Cut Pattern page which let you cut continuously in one direction. These options improve toolpath motion on geometry that previously forced motion to break into multiple segments. This update improves cut consistency and helps avoid unwanted directional changes.

In addition, the new Follow curve chaining method gives you greater control over cut direction. You can select multiple chains in a single operation and Mastercam will automatically transition between climb and conventional milling as indicated by the chain direction. This creates predictable, uninterrupted cutting motion along complex edges or multiple separated regions.

This is useful for:

  • Using multiple chains in an operation and allowing the tool motion to alternate between Climb and Conventional milling.

  • Adjusting the dynamic start point to control where the toolpath begins.

  • Using lollipop mills to create continuous motion instead of segmented motion.
